Handmade miniature books using sewn signature (upper three books) and Coptic stitch binding (lower two books). Each book is approximately one inch across by 1.25 inches high and contains three signatures of 10 pages each.
2020-2021. Soft-sculpture. Approx. 30x35 inches
This work began as an exploration into form and shape but, as Covid intensified, I became consumed by how important touch was to my sense of self and my ability to thrive in this world. Hold reflects on this change in significance by playing with scale and the melding of separate bodies into one grotesque, yet lovely, being. In a pandemic that complicates physical connection, touch becomes precarious at best and deadly at worst, but it remains something that we cannot live without.
(2019) Installation: soft sculpture with collaged letterpress prints, drawings, and handwritten poems.
